The TOLERANCE POSTER SHOW is a traveling exhibition and part of the TOLERANCE PROJECT initiated by the artist MIRKO ILIĆ from New York, USA. He was inspired by the third edition of the film festival “House of Tolerance” Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 2017 and asked 28 artists to create a poster about tolerance, the only requirement being that they write “tolerance” in their native language. After a successful 10-day show in Ljubljana, they decided to tour the posters globally. Now, whenever the exhibition appears in a new city, local designers contribute to the show’s ever-expanding catalogue of artworks. In end of 2024 they also visited Buenos Aires in Argentina!
In an effort to engage with a wide cross-section of the population, curators are encouraged to exhibit posters outdoors and in public spaces. Shows are also well suited for unconventional locations, like scaffolding and stairwells. If desired, exhibits can be split between indoors and outdoors – whatever it takes to maximize viewership. The TOLERANCE PROJECT is dedicated to reaching people who don’t ordinarily visit galleries or museums; programming decisions should reflect that goal. Posters are delivered digitally to curators, who then print the materials themselves (the TOLERANCE PROJECT can help with expenses if financial assistance is needed.) All 200+ posters may be used in promotion for the show, and may be re-exhibited as desired. Since launching in 2017, the Tolerance Project has brought a message of inclusion and acceptance to over 400.000 people in over 40 countries. – TOLERANCE PROJECT
From 17th December in 2024 till 2nd March 2025, the TOLERANCE POSTER SHOW also had an ehibition at the MUSEO NACIONAL DE ARTE DECORATIVO in Buenos Aires. Sixty selected posters were displayed on the perimeter fence, making them visible from Avenida del Libertador and from the museum’s gardens, one of the most beautiful early 20th-century palaces in the city. The Argentine edition of the event served as an open-air gallery accessible to a wide and diverse public. The show was curated by JUAN LO BIANCO, who is also the director of this museum. This show was a collaborative project with the Universidad Nacional de Lanús in the metropolitan area south of Buenos Aires.
