In Memory of ARIJAN STANIŠIĆ aka GRUE – 11th May 2002 to 26th November 2018 – Rest in Peace
ARIJAN STANIŠIĆ, known to his friends as ARČI and by his writer name GRUE, was a young graffiti and street artist from Dobrinja, Sarajevo. He attended the School of Applied Arts in Sarajevo and left his mark on the city through numerous graffiti works, particularly in Dobrinja, Grbavica, and other parts of Sarajevo. Documented works attributed to him include pieces and tags such as “GRUE Dobrinja”, “GRUE Grbavica”, and “GRUE Carapara.”
Stanišić died in late November 2018 at a young age of 16 years after suffering an allergic shock reportedly linked to the consumption of a protein or dietary supplement. Following his death, his friends and fellow artists continued to preserve his memory and his connection to Sarajevo’s graffiti and art scene. In 2019, a football tournament was organized in his honor under the name “Stanišić Arijan – Arči”, an event that continued in the years that followed.
On 16th May 2021, a large mural dedicated to his memory was created in Dobrinja, initiated by his friends and produced together with the street-art group OBOJENA KLAPA. His name also continued to appear in later commemorative and charitable projects, including “Grue” T-shirts sold as part of a humanitarian initiative by Pomozi.ba.
ARIJAN STANIŠIĆ aka GRUE is therefore remembered not only as a graffiti writer who contributed to Sarajevo’s urban landscape, but also as a figure whose friends and fellow artists have kept his memory, art, and presence alive long after his death.
