Multimedijalni Muzej – Multimedia Museum
Planet Sarajevo is a modern multimedia museum located in the center of Sarajevo near the famous Eternal Flame. The museum opened in August 2025 and focuses mainly on the history and development of Sarajevo between 1945 and 1991/92. It shows how the city developed in areas such as music, film, architecture, sports, industry, science, and innovation. One of the most important topics is the 1984 Winter Olympics, which brought international attention to Sarajevo.
Unlike traditional museums, Planet Sarajevo uses modern technology to make history more interactive and exciting. The museum has more than 40 screens, interactive displays, videos, projections, QR codes, NFC technology, and virtual reality experiences. Visitors can, for example, experience the famous Olympic bobsleigh track through VR. Another special attraction is the Video Infinity Room, where visitors are surrounded by images, light, and music connected to Sarajevo’s cultural and musical history.
The museum contains hundreds of stories about Sarajevo and its people. It does not only focus on famous personalities and important events, but also tells stories about ordinary people and their everyday lives. Visitors can choose which stories they want to explore, so there is no fixed route through the museum. Depending on how much time they spend exploring, a visit usually takes between 45 minutes and two hours.
Since its opening, Planet Sarajevo has received several awards, including the Best New Attraction in Sarajevo Award and the Vision 100 Award for Innovation. Overall, Planet Sarajevo is different from a traditional museum because it does not simply display historical objects. Instead, it combines history, culture, technology, music, and personal stories to give visitors an interactive and immersive experience of Sarajevo’s past.
