BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA: Streetart Sarajevo – Marijin Dvor – Put Života 2B – Train Station – Lokomotiva de Sarajevo

Lokomotiva de Sarajevo

The 71-022 steam locomotive at Sarajevo Central Station is a relic from the heyday of Bosnia’s narrow-gauge railroads. It was built in Berlin in 1922 by Orenstein & Koppel and operated on the 760-millimeter-wide narrow-gauge network throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina. It remained in service until the late 1960s, including in Prijedor. After its active service, the locomotive was preserved and restored in 2013. Since then, it has stood at Sarajevo Central Station as a technical monument, serving as a reminder of an era when steam locomotives played a central role in transportation and in connecting Sarajevo with the rest of Bosnia.
