Tribute to basketball legend Mirza “Kinđe” Delibašić
Mirza Delibašić aka “Kinđe” was born on 9th January 1954 in Tuzla and died on 8th December 2001 in Sarajevo with an age of only 47. He was one of Europe’s greatest basketball players of all times and is considered a sports legend in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He led KK Bosna Sarajevo to victory in the European Champions Cup in 1979 and went on to enjoy great success with Real Madrid. With the Yugoslav national team, he won, among other achievements, the 1980 Olympic gold medal as well as World and European championship titles.
His exceptional basketball IQ, elegance, and accuracy made him one of the best players of his generation. After suffering a stroke in 1983, he was forced to end his career prematurely. To this day, “Kinđe” is revered as a symbol of sportsmanship, talent, and basketball in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This bronze statue at Skanderia Plaza was created by sculptor ADIS LUKAČ in memory and for honoring this fantastic sports legend.
„Not for a long time will an Andalusian be born – if indeed one ever will – so distinguished and so rich in adventures…“ – F. G. Lorca
