Tribute to Davorin Popović – 2019

Davorin Popović lived from 23rd September 1946 till 18th June 2001 and is considered one of the most important and greatest rock singer and songwriter of the region. Born in Sarajevo and well known throughout the former Yugoslavia, he was the lead singer and frontman of the progressive and pop rock band Indexi with who he founded the specific music style known as „Sarajevo Pop Rock School“, which later influenced other bands and singers in Sarajevo and the surrounding countries. During his career, he earned nicknames including „Pimpek“, „Davor“, „Dačo“ or simply „Pjevač“, which means literally „The Singer“, due to his unique voice.

This fantastic mural in is honour was created by the local artist BENJAMIN ČENGIČ aka ZIAN with his urban art organization OBOJENA KLAPA in 2019. It was part of the anual POP ART FESTIVAL which was happening during that time, also as you can see the whole design of the mural made in pop art style. The festival was established in 2017 by the Sarajevo-based cultural association Pogon in cooperation with the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo, the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the iMTM Institute. Since then it is held in May and lasts for three days.
