Ttaeng Ttaeng Street  –  Gyeongui Line Forest Trail

Ttaeng-ttaeng Street, the Origin of Hongdae Culture. Wausan-ro 32-gil, which crosses Gyeongui Line Forest Trail, is called „Ttaeng-ttaeng Street,“ after the ringing sound that alerted people nearby of a passing train as the barriers came down at the crosswalk along the old Gyeongui Railway. Known as the origin of Hongdae culture, particularly music and art, Ttaeng-ttaeng Street is still home to a number of decrepit storage spaces where the first Korean indie bands used to practice and workshops where hungry artists produced their work. Even today, run-down eateries where poor artists and students used to sit and drink, agonizing over their youth, remain along Ttaeng-ttaeng Street, reminding visitors of the good old days.  –  City of Seoul

Site of Memory  –  Trail of National Humiliation

The „Site of Memory“ consists several artworks like the „Trail of National Humiliation“ or the „Site of the Residence of the Japanese Residency-General of Korea“. The Japan-Korea Annexation Treaty was coercively made at this site on August 22nd in 1910. The treaty was officially promulgated on August 29th, and was called the National Humiliation of the Gvengsul Year. After this treaty, the building became the official residence of the Japanese Governor-General. In 2015, in celebration of the 70th anniversary of Korea’s liberation in 1945, the City of Seoul erected the Upside Down Statue on the site, and in 2016 the place was re-dedicated as the Site of Memory.
