Palseondo – Eight Immortals

The painting of Eight Immortals depict the eight legendary immortals, who are He Xiangu, Cao Guojiu, Li Tieguai, Lan Caihe, LüDongbin, Han Xiangzi, Zhang Guolao and Zhongli Quan. The number eight means „etc“ when indicating more than a group of people in literature. So, the Eight Immortals are Taoist Immortals or Taoist hermit with miraculous powers, which also describe and symbolize the life of people including poverty, wealth, the noble, commoners, the elderly, youth, men and women.

Immortals were recorded individually on a record by the writer of Tang and Song dynasties in China, and started to become the united Eight Immortals from the Yuan Dynasty. According to ‚Haeyeochonggo‘ written by Ik Cho in the Qing Dynasty, the origin of the paintings of eight immortals is not clear, however there hadn‘ been any paintings of its kind before the Yuan Dynasty. So the Eight Immortals can be said that they had begun from the Yuan Dynasty. – Encyclopedia of Korean Culture, Academy of Korean Studies

The Reason why Ahn Jung-geun killed Ito Hrobumi – 1910

„What I wanted to achieve through my deed was to preserve the independence of Korea and the peace of East Asia, I did not kill Ito out of presonal vengeance; I killed him for the peace of East Asia, I never intended to commit suicide even after I succeeded in killing Ito, because the only objective I had in mind was far from being achieved.“
