The Trúc Lâm Temple is one of the most important Buddhist monasteries in Vietnam and is located about five kilometers south of the city center of Dà Lạt. The temple complex sits on a hill overlooking the scenic Tuyền Lâm Lake and is surrounded by dense pine forests. Because of its unique location, the temple is known not only as a religious center but also as one of the most peaceful and beautiful places in the region.
The monastery was founded in the early 1990s. Construction began in 1993 under the leadership of the Buddhist monk Thích Thanh Từ, an important representative of the Vietnamese Zen tradition. The temple officially opened one year later. It belongs to the Trúc Lâm Zen school, a Buddhist tradition that originally emerged in the 13th century during the Trần Dynasty. This school was founded by the Vietnamese king Trần Nhân Tông, who became a monk after abdicating the throne and developed a uniquely Vietnamese form of Zen Buddhism. The philosophy of this tradition focuses on meditation, inner discipline, and living a simple life in harmony with nature.

The architecture of the temple combines traditional Vietnamese design with modern elements. Its curved roofs, large wooden structures, and spacious courtyards are especially characteristic. The main prayer hall is decorated with detailed carvings and several Buddha statues. The entire complex covers a large area filled with carefully maintained flower gardens, bonsai trees, and peaceful walking paths. Many visitors appreciate the calm atmosphere, which feels very different from the busy center of Dà Lạt.
One of the most popular ways to reach the temple is by cable car from Dà Lạt. During the ride, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of forests, greenhouses, lakes, and the rolling hills of Vietnam’s Central Highlands. In the early morning, mist often covers the landscape, creating a quiet and almost mystical atmosphere.

Today, the monastery is home to many monks and nuns who live, study, and meditate there while also welcoming visitors from around the world. Although the temple is a famous tourist attraction, it remains an active place of worship. Visitors are therefore encouraged to dress respectfully and maintain the peaceful environment. For many travelers, Trúc Lâm Temple is not only a cultural landmark but also a place for relaxation, reflection, and spiritual calm in the heart of Vietnam.
