La Abuelita

The fantastic huge mural called “La Abuelita” which means “The Grandmother” was painted by Los Angeles native artist Miles MacGregor aka EL MAC on the backside of the American Hotel. As motif he took one of his photographs he made of the artist Martha Gorman Schultz, wo is a Navajo blanket waver from northern Arizona. EL MAC started painting in the mid-90s and was influenced by the Chicano and Mexian cultures in his neighbourhood and surrounding. In his artworks he often presents the power and beauty of feminine, elderly and indigenous people.
