SWEDEN: Streetart Borås - Magasinsgatan 8 - Graffiti Hall of Fame - Legal Spray Space

Here everyone, professionals and beginners, children and adults, can express themselves artistically in the middle of Borås. The open wall at Magasinsgatan 8 provides space for everyone who wants to paint and create in public. The facades are 100 meters long and between 0.8 and 3 meters high, with both plastered and boarded surfaces. At the corner of the wall there is a bin for spray cans. The open wall was inaugurated on September 3rd in 2017 in connection to the NO LIMIT urban art festival and was sponsored by XL BYGG, Norrby Trä, and Flügger Färg in Borås.

In 2017, part of the existing wall was covered with a paintable surface. The previously dense birch grove was thinned and the site has been made accessible with gravel paths and park benches. To create a safe environment even during the darker periods of the year, the area has been illuminated. The opening and the program at the open wall were produced with the support of Emmy Hilmerssons Minnesfond. In a 2018 citizen survey, the open wall received a positive rating. In the fall of 2019, the rest of the wall was also covered with paintable surfaces, and the wall has now been completed according to plan. Since then, the wall at Magasinsgatan 8 has been painted many times by local and visiting creatives.

Rules for the legal spray space: The open wall is free to paint on if you follow the well-being rules. Paint only on the open wall, not on other surfaces. Don’t paint anything that could be offensive to anyone. Take rubbish, cans and other items with you after your visit or use the bins on site. There is a special bin for spray cans. Have an open and friendly attitude towards passers-by and others who are painting. – City of Borås
