SERBIA: Streetart Novi Sad – Rumenacki Put 25 – AVIJATICARSKA GALERIJA – Fantastic Open Air Urban Art Gallery

The fantastic AVIJATICARSKA GALERIJA is a growing urban art gallery in the neighbourhood around Rumenacki Put 25. It started with one building, but after the great results, the residents of the other buildings around also wanted such murals. The creative initiator of this project SHPIRA developed this idea and involved more and more artists and also residents, meanwhile the whole project includes eight large apartment blocks now covered with beautiful wall paintings in many different styles. Before they were grey and boring, now it is like an art gallery. And a lot more buildings are under discussion, the project is growing and when you see what is happening there, you understand how art can change a place. Check out the great artworks from this place in the following!

Space organizer and artist SHPIRA about the urban art gallery: „We do graffiti there since 1998 and during the years we painted all of these buildings, but back then we were doing bombings and tagging. But after some time we also started doing pieces and good graffiti. My first 3d pieces were here. Many years later, I stood at these walls and there’s the whole space. And I had some ideas for an urban art gallery. So we started painting the first walls, and then some other neighbours just asked me: Can you do this as well on our building? So at first there was one building. Then two buildings, three buildings, four buildings, and it kept on going. More and more neighbours asked, hey, can you do it also on ours? So it’s cool and really nice. Now we have filled seven buildings and number eight is in negotiations.“  – From the interview with SHPIRA

Tribute to BILLAIN AETHEK and STF CREW  –  SHPIRA

„Me and few of my friends from my street / primary school / secondary school started to paint around 1999 and 2000, and created „STF CREW“, which means „SAVE THE FUTURE CREW“. So we started to actively participate in that subculture. From learning the basics of graffiti, up to some new forms that I am trying to transcend by combining cybernetic and 3D forms, that stayed as a part of me up to this day.“  –  SHPIRA

ARAMAT

ARAMAT TAMARA is mostly engaged in painting scarves, batik technique, as well as acrylic painting on canvases and wood. She likes to experiment with techniques, and since she doesn’t do murals that often, this was the perfect opportunity to paint a wall at our gallery.  –  Avijaticarska Gallery

„Cubed Eyes Girl“  –  SHPIRA  &  Children

A piece from 2024. Since there’s a playground for children just underneath that atomic shelter, I’ve decided that I should paint something for the kids, so that they have something cool to look at there. Children from the neighbourhood wanted to help me at some point, so I gave them an assignment to paint the background. Since Theo DNK and Gre are a bit older, and they know how to work with spray paint, they painted some more serious parts of the piece. A cool detail is that you can go around the piece, and every angle looks slightly different.  –  SHPIRA

„LINQ Glitch Sculpture“  –  SHPIRA

The basics of the sketch is actually a photograph of a small cardboard, paper and plasticine sculpture, lit with bicycle lights.  –  SHPIRA

„The portal is open!“  –  SHPIRA

This graffiti was done before the creation of the concept of the gallery, right next to it. It was a predating piece to the gallery concept. The stones you see on the photo, they were stolen two weeks after it was done. The name „PLAGUE“ or in Serbian „KUGA“ came up when I was sketching it out for one of the first times, and there was a movie about the middle ages on TV that said: „And then, the Plague came to town, nobody was safe“. The name sounded completely like it should go with the image, so it became a Kuga, although it can mean a whole lot of other things, in relation to all of the challenges of modern life.“  –  SHPIRA

TKV

Last summer, we managed to catch some of KRALIJCA VILA’s artworks, better known as TKV. That was after she did a beautiful mural for Dobro Drvo in our neigbourhood. She also posted a few posters and did a stencil in our gallery. Thank you very much!  –  Avijaticarska Gallery
