„Tribute to King Karl the First“ – „Statuia Ecvestră a lui Carol I“
The equestrian statue of King Carol I was designed and created by Romanian sculptor FLORIN CODRE. It was constructed between 2009 and 2010 and unveiled in 2011 at this location in front of the Central University Library. The statue is about 7 m high and stands on a granite pedestal approximately 6 m high, making a total height of around 13 m. It is made of bronze and weighs about 13 tons. The pose shows Carol I on a horse, looking towards the former royal residence which is today the National Art Museum. Originally, there was a statue in the same place from 1939 by the artist IVAN MESTROVIC, but it was later destroyed.
