Portrait of Thomas a Kempis
Thomas a Kempis was born in Kempen around 1380 and died on July 25, 1471 in the Agnetenberg monastery near Zwolle. Kempis was an Augustinian canon, mystic, and spiritual writer of the 15th century. He wrote the four-part text “De imitatione Christi”. For a long time, this book was the most widely distributed book after the Bible.
