Tribute to Vojvoda Miljan Vukov Vešović
Vojvoda Miljan Vukov Vešović was a prominent Montenegrin military leader, tribal chieftain, and senator. „Vojvoda“ means somthing like „Duke“. He was born in 1820 in the village of Lopate in Lijeva Rijeka, Montenegro. As leader of the Vasojevići clan, he played a key role in the resistance against the Ottoman Empire and advocated for his clan’s political integration into Montenegro. In 1857, he was appointed Vojvoda by Prince Danilo I and was granted a seat in the Montenegrin Senate in 1858. He gained particular prominence for his military leadership in the battles against Ottoman troops, especially during the wars of 1862 and 1876 to 1877. Miljan Vukov Vešović died in March 1886 in Lijeva Rijeka. His exact date of birth is not historically clear. To this day, he is regarded as an important figure in Montenegrin history. This bust was created by local artist SRDAN KOVAČEVIĆ in his memory.
