Tips for a Day Trip
Standard itinerary is to drive up in the morning from Almaty, visit the Singing Dunes after lunch, spend the night at a guesthouse in Bashi Village. Day 2 visit White Mountains for all day hiking, spend the night in Bashi. Day 3 leave for Zharkent. Altyn Emel does not have the infrastructure for self-touring, you need to hire a guide in Almaty for this: the drives and trails are not marked, signage is poor, its very remote, and weather can be quite hot. It is not practical or safe to try this on your own. If interested, I can recommend an excellent guide. – Mike Hennessey
