The Kolsay Lake is a beautiful lake with petrified forest. Like the Altyn Emel National Park, it is not really set up for self guided tours, you really should book a tour guide in Almaty and make this hike part of your itinerary with Charyn Canyon. If interested, I can recommend an excellent guide. The lake is located on the northern slope of the Tian Shan Mountains in south-eastern Kazakhstan. It is a two and half hour drive south from Charyn Canyon. – Mike Hennessey
