ITALY: Streetart Turin – Borgo Campidoglio – Via Musinè 12 – FATHI HASSAN & PAOLA RISOLI

Through the four closed windows, the monstrous being of FATHI HASSAN wanders eerie and sinuous; difficult to understand its origin. Precisely this indefiniteness and this mystery constitute the charm of the work of the Egyptian artist, who exploits the available space of the building with great freedom, far from the rules of tradition. The windows are no longer conical, they do not delimit a space, but open, almost unexpectedly, onto another dimension “behind” freely invaded by the artist’s creative fruit. Thus, in the heart of Cmpidoglio, colors and inventions that are the fruit of two cultures, the Italian and the African, burst forth. FATHI HASSAN, born in Cairo in 1957, trained in Italy, arriving, in his successful career, to represent Egypt at the 1988 Venice Biennale.

Born in Milan in 1969, PAOLA RISOLI subjectively elaborates the theme of the landscape using different means of expression, from painting to photography, up to poetic and suggestive micro-installations. The work created for the MAU in 2005 is divided into two superimposed spaces, like a modern diptych. The subjects are the recurring ones in the Gardens: soft hills, soft-crowned trees, vases overflowing with flowers. The point of view is that of an interior. A window sill can be glimpsed suggesting the presence of an observer. But, as in all the production, there is no trace of the human being. This aspect, together with the adoption of unreal, charged and unnatural colors, ensures that the landscapes become spaces dedicated to meditation. Spaces steeped in silence, peace and magic, as if waiting for us on the other side there was the side of the coin, the negative of our high.
