ITALY: Streetart Turin – Borgo Campidoglio – Open Air Museum – Piazza Moncenisio 9 – ANTONIO MASCIA

A bizarre red sperm whale with long arms competes for space with a woman swimming sinuously at his side. On the right, some letters are arranged free, ignoring the canons of orientation of writing; we read the word campodoglius. In this case, ANTONIO MASCIA ironically plays with the similarity between the name of the village and that of the marine animal. The Latin-like declination of the writing takes up the zoological texts with irony. It is no coincidence that ANTONIO MASCIA works as a draftsman alongside his artistic practice at the Department of Animal Biology of the University of Turin. The artist has a real passion for fantastic subjects. His collection of engravings and drawings boasts a wide range of imaginary animals, often accompanied by human figures. ANTONIO MASCIA, born in Bologna in 1960, lives and works in Turin.
