Louis Daniel Armstrong, known as „Satchmo“, was an American jazz trumpeter and singer. He had a significant influence on the development of jazz and is considered one of the most important musicians of the 20th century. Armstrong was born on August 4th 1901 in New Orleans, Louisiana in the United States and died on July 6th 1971 in New York. This sculpture was errected in honour of this fantastic creative mind as one of a series around of the Jardin des Arènes de Cimiez, where also the walkway names are titeled to jazz musician names. Check out as well the sculpture of Lionel Hampton and nearby is also the famous Matisse Museum. In the middle of the park is also the Villa des Arènes with painted frescos around the building and a big metal tripod Installation in front of it.
