The city of Sibiu has around 134.000 inhabitants and is geographically located in the center of the country. Before the Second World War, it was a German settlement area and part of Transylvania. Worth seeing is the architecture of the old town from the 12th century, the remains of medieval walls and towers such as the Ratt Tower, the parish church or the Brukenthal Palace with its museum and an interesting collection of European paintings.
