DEINSTINTO – Urban Art Festival
The first international urban art festival DeInstinto took place from March 5th to 10th in 2019 in the South Argentinian coastal town Mar del Plata. The festival was organized by the local artists JULIÁN ROURA and LUCHO GALLESE, who already started with this happening in 2018 when they did the first mural in a duo session. The next year with the help of JUAN MATHIAS, LUCAS COMUNICACTION and MARCIAL they invited more than 50 other local, national and international muralists and graffiti artists to beautify the abandoned organic railway line between Guido and Funes. This area from the streets Castelli to Almirante Brown got transformed into an amazing and free open air urban art gallery spanning several blocks. The murals cover a wide range of themes, from social commentary to abstract art. The festival was a great success, and it helped to put Mar del Plata on the map as a destination for urban art. Most of the works are still visible today, but of course over time additional graffiti and paintings got added.
Among the invited artists, who came from all over the world, were: FILITE (Brazil), AGNALDO MIRAGE (Brazil), HARRY MONTEC (Bolivia), HALLO (Chile), CRISTINA LLIURAT (Spain), FÓSIL RIVERA (Mexico) and SERGIO JARA (Paraguay). The group of national artists included CHUNGO TRASH (Bahía Blanca), LUCAS QUINTO (Buenos Aires), PAOLO PORCEL (Córdoba), EMILIA LEO (Mar del Plata), NATALIO CEES (Mendoza), LISANDRO URTIAGA (Santa Fe), CHELO CANDIA (Río Negro), TIERRA DEL FUEGO and others. – Analía Pertusi – Photographer & Author

„When we decided to found DeInstinto we thought with only one logic in mind: to open the doors to urban art as a bridge for social transformation, because we firmly believe that street art is revolutionary. Almost 60 artists from different parts of Argentina, Latin America, Europe and our city, have given to the cultural heritage of Mar del Plata works of incalculable value. And above all, it gave those of us who organized this, the dream of the first step in converting the place where we choose to live, in a city full of colors, public art, free, eternal and unseizable. This would not have been possible without the support of those who did not hesitate to add a grain of sand to make DeInstinto a reality.
