USA: Streetart San Francisco – California – Chinatown – Urban Art at the Birthplace of Bruce Lee

Chinatown in San Francisco is the oldest and one of the largest Chinese neighborhoods in North America, known for its pagoda architecture and its historical significance as a center of Chinese immigration to the United States, which is still alive here today. It offers unique cultural experiences with restaurants, shops, temples, museums, teahouses, fortune cookie productions, and markets that celebrate Chinese culture and cuisine. It is a mix of ornamental architecture, exotic shops, historic sites and food markets. San Francisco is also the birthplace of the famous Chinese-American actor, martial artist, and martial arts instructor Bruce Lee. He is considered an icon of martial arts film and this legend is also called the greatest martial artist of the 20th century. Bruce Lee was born on November 27th in 1940 at the Chinese Hospital in San Francisco. He later returned to his parents‘ home in Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong, where he died on July 20th in 1973. During his training years he developed a special martial arts style called Jeet Kune Do, therefore many murals in Chinatown are dedicated to him and his wisdom. Here are a collection of urban artworks through Chinatown in San Francisco photographed by HELMUTH PAUL and RENATE HEIDI BAYERLE.
