Tribute to the Woman Fighters – Споменик Жена-борец
This monument created by sculptor BORO MITRIKJESKI was made of marble and got unveiled on March 8th in 1970. It is dedicated to all the women who fought during the wars while doing supportive work. Many of them lost their lives by fighting for freedom and protecting their country, around 1705 in World War II. In 1940, the „Women’s Purchasing Cooperative“ was founded, with about 150 members consisting of housewives, workers, students, and other young women. Women and female youth from Skopje and throughout Macedonia actively participated in many actions organized the unions. However, women were mostly active in collecting aid, supplying partisan units with winter clothing, organizing food for political prisoners or delivering mail. The artist BORO MITRIKJESKI was born in Prilep in North Macedonia on May 10th in 1927, and died on November 24th in 2018.
