Tribute to Jane Sandanski – ???????? ???? ?????????
Jane Ivanov Sandanski was a Bulgarian-Macedonian revolutionary and a leading figure in the left wing of the Internal Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Organization. He was born on January 31, 1872, in Vlahi, in what is now Bulgaria but was then part of the Ottoman Empire, and was assassinated on April 22, 1915, near the Roschen Monastery near the Bulgarian town of Pirin. He was buried in the monastery there, and his famous words were engraved on his tombstone: “To live is to fight, the slave for freedom and the free man for perfection.” The statue was created on a rectangular base, on the sides of which metal plates depict sculptural scenes from his life.
