NORTH MACEDONIA: Streetart Skopje – Centar – Boulevard Goce Delchev 16 – Saint Clement of Ohrid Monument – PETAR HADJI BOSCHKOW

Tribute to Saint Clement of Ohrid

This monumental memorial made of black Jablanica marble was created in 1972 by the sculptor PETAR HADJI BOSCHKOW and is dedicated to teacher, educator and symbol of spiritual light Saint Clement of Ohrid. It is located at the front of the entrance of the National and University Library of Saint Clement of Ohrid.

The form combines realistic representation with abstract and cubist elements, achieving a powerful visual and symbolic effect. The sculpture emphasizes the figure’s verticality, underscoring its monumentality and grandeur. The clothing, though simple, is structured by rhythmic folds that convey both dynamism and tranquility.

The upper, curved section with its symbolic hand gesture draws the viewer into the figure’s spiritual and intellectual power – not only as a historical figure, but also as a bearer of knowledge. The sculpture depicts not just a man, but a saint in action, a figure who teaches, leads, and spiritually renews.
