Zabjelo Culture Festival – Music, Culture, and Community
The FESTIVAL KULTURE ZABJELO, or in English „Zabjelo Culture Festival“ was launched in 2022 in Podgorica. The idea behind it was to bring rock music and alternative culture from Montenegro and the entire Balkan region to Zabjelo, a neighborhood known for its distinctive subculture and strong sense of community. At the same time, the goal was to ensure that cultural events didn’t just take place in the city’s central venues, but were also accessible to people right in their own neighborhood.
The first edition took place on 10th June 2022 at the FK Zabjelo stadium. With bands like Zoster, Partibrejkers, Darko Rundek & Ekipa, and Parampaščad, the stadium became a hub for the regional rock scene. In 2023, a two-day edition followed, featuring artists such as Zabranjeno pušenje, Letu Štuke, Kanda, Kodža i Nebojša, TBF, and Sunshine.
From the very beginning, a key component of the festival was its social mission: a portion of the ticket proceeds went toward charitable projects and supporting the local soccer club. Through this, the festival supported, among other things, the establishment of a free soccer school for children.
Urban Art also had its place and for the first edition of the festival MIŠO JOSKIĆ, a visual artist and graphic designer, created the striking mural on the outer wall of the festival grounds. In this way, streetart became part of a project that combines music, urban culture, and social engagement.
In just two years, the festival attracted around 5.000 visitors. In 2024, the organizers and the soccer club took a break, primarily due to the demanding logistics and a lack of support. However, the idea of reviving the festival one day remained. MIŠO JOSKIĆ’s mural is thus more than just a visual element: It serves as a reminder of a cultural project that gave Zabjelo its own stage and demonstrated how music, art, and community can shape a place.
