„Tête Carrée“ – „Square Head“
The Tête Carrée, the Square Head, is located on the Traverse Barla, which leads from Boulevard Carabacel in the west across the partially built-over Paillon Canal to Rue Barla. The name says it all, it is a large head with a human neck and chin, but above it is a large cube.
The imposing work of art is 30 meters high in grey concrete and was inaugurated on 29 June 2002. Another special feature is that there is a public library inside. A fitting symbol for the reading and studying of literature and the thinking of science.
The large sculpture was created by the sculptor and painter ALEXANDRE JOSEPH SOSNOWSKY, better known as SACHA SOSNO. He was born on March 18th 1937 in Marseille and died on December 3rd 2013 in Monaco. The building complex was designed by the architects FRANCIS CHAPUS and YVES BAYARD, who was born in Paris in 1935 and died in Nice on March 11th 2008.
