„La Fontaine du Soleil“
These sculptures on and around the fountain on Place Masséna were made by sculptor ALFRED AUGUSTE JANNIOT, who lived from 13th June 1889 till 15th July 1969. „La fontaine du Soleil“ was inaugurated in 1956 and the main statue of Apollo was reinstalled on June 20th in 2011 by Christian Estrosi, the Deputy Mayor of Nice and President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis. The monument shows an allegorical representation of the solar system, inspired by Greco-Roman mythology. Apollo as the „image of the sun“ is surrounded by five bronze statues, representing Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars and Saturn.
