Tribute to André Masséna
The bronze statue depicts Marshal André Masséna during the Battle of Essling on the Danube. There are other smaller sculptures around the plinth. The work of art was created by the French sculptor ALBERT-ERNEST CARRIER-BELLEUSE and inaugurated on August 15th 1869, which is Saint Napoleon’s Day and the birthday of Napoleon I. The monument stands for Nice’s ties with France and the Second Empire. The Massena statue was listed as a historical monument in 2009 and is an important attraction in Nice.
