FRANCE: Streetart Nice – Quartier du Port – Rue Bonaparte 38 – Le Panier Gourmand – Odette Passeron – ENZO

„In Memory of Odette Passeron“

This memorandum portrait of Odette Passeron was drawn by local artist ENZO with chalk on the facade of the fruit and vegetable store „Le Panier Gourmand“. A special protective layer was applied to protect the artwork from rain and weather. She was the first generation of this family business, which is now in the third.

Panier Gorumand about their origins: The story of Panier Gourmand begins with a passion: that of Victor Passeron. In 1945, in post-war France, he bought a small box in the heart of the market town of Rue Bonaparte in Nice to sell local produce, fresh fruit and vegetables. He bought a second box, next door to his own, to enlarge his stall, then a third, then a fourth, to finally have a large front window known at all. Odette, the daughter of primers in the nearby market town of La Buffa, is then hired as a saleswoman. The alchemy between her and Victor works: it’s the crush. They fall in love, get married and have a child: André, the new artisan of the family passion.

André continues the family tradition. Yet, André Passeron did not intend at first to pick up the torch from his parents. After a CAP and BEP Hotellerie, he wanted to experience the world of work on his own and worked in a restaurant in Monaco. In the early 1980s, it is a return to the roots: he got a passion for the trade of primers and took over the family business in the early 1990s. He then wanted to continue the tradition and the know-how acquired from his father, to which he added an additional service: the delivery of local products for professionals and food shops. He is currently still working at the historic store in the city of Bonaparte, and has been able to pass on his passion and experience to his son: Jérémy.

And Jérémy blew a new wind! Jérémy Passeron, who grew up in the shop and has helped his father there since childhood, took the opposite step of family tradition by doing a BTS Bank, and by leaving to live in Australia for eight months to perfect his English. Back in France, undecided about his future, he oscillates between the catering and real estate trades, before coming to help his father during a summer: this is the revelation. At 23, he rediscovers the trade of primeurs from his father. After four years of collaboration with his father André, father and son have the opportunity to buy a competing primeur in 2015, which will become in the hands of Jérémy le Panier Gourmand.  –  Panier Gourmand
