Thanks a lot for the contribution of the awesome material by photographer and streetart hunter Gail Lochner. On her channel you can find regularly interesting and creative content from Ecuador. Here we have a little introduction by Gail to the city with a selected collection of the urban works from Cuenca in the Azuay province. Gail about the photo gallery: This photo was the 3’rd I’d taken in Cuenca. It was an eye opener for me. Artists paint everywhere and on anything. This older painting, which is something I could look at forever, was painted on a wall between two different generational buildings. I feel the surroundings of some of these pieces are as much a part of the art, as the actual painting. It all tells a story. In this case, adding some history gave us an added bonus of a woman from another time.
This great piece of the pink and blue woman, was painted on the end of a building, on a hill emptying onto a street. A picture of just her, leaves one looking at this post wondering the point of the work. Add one of the two following pictures and you have two perspectives. There’s also that arrow in her heart. Point being, in Cuenca at least, many times you need more than the painting, for the full feel and appreciation.
Of course we have our large murals. What’s interesting is the larger murals are frequently painted over, like these two have been. I hit certain areas of town regularly, hoping I don’t miss one. I personally feel this pretty cool and I will post the changes as they appear.

Cuenca is also full of the unexpected. This house is one of them and this precious gem is in the middle of a vibrant neighborhood. It has everything I love. Art, history and nature.
