Victoria is the capital of the Canadian province of British Columbia. With a population of approximately 91.000, it is picturesquely situated on Vancouver Island along the Pacific coast. The city was founded in the 19th century by the Hudson’s Bay Company and quickly developed into an important commercial and administrative hub in Western Canada. Thanks to British influence, Victorian architecture and historic buildings continue to shape the cityscape to this day. In addition to its history and natural beauty, Victoria boasts a vibrant urban art and culture scene. Particularly in neighborhoods like Downtown or Fernwood, there are numerous murals, street art projects, and creative public installations that highlight Indigenous culture, environmental issues, and contemporary social themes. Small galleries like The Avenue Gallery or Deluge Contemporary Art showcase modern and experimental art, while alternative cultural venues such as the Open Space Arts Society serve as meeting places for performances, exhibitions, and young creatives. Festivals like the Rifflandia Festival or the Victoria Fringe Festival further enhance the city’s creative atmosphere. The following photos were taken by world traveller and streetart lover MAZZANTI.
