CANADA: Streetart Montréal – Villeray – Petite Italie – 231 Place-du-Marché-du-Nord – Marché Jean-Talon – MATEO

La pomme du savoir

The Jean-Talon market, named after a famous steward of New France, is one of the largest and most picturesque public markets in Montreal. In the 1920s, Italian immigrants settled in the sector in large numbers. Fruit and vegetable shops are sprouting up everywhere. The crisis struck in 1929 and the city decided to construct buildings to house a market and give work to the unemployed. The market opened in 1933. Renovated and altered several times, the market has survived until today and has entered the hearts of Montrealers who still frequent it with great pleasure. Little Italy, along Saint-Laurent Street, and the Jean-Talon Market are a must during a stay in Montreal. Gourmets will be served!  –  Patrice Loranger
