CANADA: Streetart Montréal – Lachine – Chemin des Iroquois – Iroquois quay – MARCEL BARBEAU

Liberté, liberté chérie  –  (1987)

The sculpture of aerial beauty made by MARCEL BARBEAU is installed at the end of the Iroquois wharf facing Lake Saint-Louis, a swelling of the Saint-Laurent River conducive to nautical activities. Until recently, it was inaccessible since the wharf housed a private marina while the land belonged to the city of Montreal! Our current mayor of leftist and environmentalist political leanings took advantage of major works carried out to expropriate the marina. A few wealthy boaters tried to protest and protect their privileges, the mayoress stood firm supported by a large majority of the population and returned the place to the citizens of Montreal. A beach project including beach volleyball courts, rest areas, canoe and kayak rentals is underway. A new place to enjoy our river, together!  –  Patrice Loranger
