Homage to Parc Belmont
Parc Belmont was a former amusement park in operation in the Cartierville district from 1923 to 1983. At the time of its opening, the district was still very little developed, but a tram line went there. Going to have fun at Parc Belmont was then an opportunity for a stroll in the countryside. From 1967, after years of great popularity, the decline began for the amusement park. Indeed, on the occasion of Expo67, La Ronde, a new amusement park was born on Île Sainte-Hélène and this park still exists. Competition and several setbacks, including a fire affecting the profitability of the park. At the end of the 1983 summer season, the park closed. Today, in addition to the mural, a small green park in the area bearing the Belmont name recalls the existence of this bygone past. – Patrice Loranger
