„Iona and the Catwalk“
This great mural made by ANNIE HAMEL and JACQUES LEBLEU is a tribute to Iona Monahan. It is located in the couture manufacturing sector, at Avenue de l’Esplanade corner rue Chabanel. Iona Monahan (1923-2006) was a journalist and artistic director specializing in fashion. She worked all her life in this sector and thus contributed greatly to the development and influence of this industry which employed thousands of people in Montréal during its golden age. Even today, rue Chabanel is recognized for its sewing and fashion workshops. Here is as well a video about a 93 years old fashion worker in rue Chabanel – Patrice Loranger
