Shop Angus
This great mural is an homage to the glorious past of Shop Angus. The Angus factories often called Shop Angus is a former industrial complex in the east of Montreal which was devoted to the construction of railway equipment. Opened on a 4.7 hectare site in 1902, around 12,000 workers made their living there at their peak. This mass of workers who needed housing gave birth to the Rosemont district. The Angus factories were used for the production of military equipment during the Second World War before starting to decline in the 1960s. They closed permanently in 1992. Land heavily contaminated by industrial activity has since been cleaned up. Today, the factories have given way to a residential district that integrates into the existing Rosemont district. A technopole still exists and accommodates companies. Some remains of the old factories are still visible. – Patrice Loranger
