Qanuqtuurniq (Innovative and resourceful)
Here is a mural made by young aboriginal people from Cape Dorset in Nunavut representing their view of the world and of life. This project was made with the help of two professional artists from Toronto: ALEXA HATANAKA and PATRICK THOMPSON. Together they for the duo PA SYSTEM. The goal is to create concrete contact between urban Canadians and natives of various communities. Obviously, the participation of young people also aims to encourage them to realize themselves through the arts. The mural occupies a wall of Habitations Coupal, low-rental housing (HLM). The residents were involved in the project and were able to give their opinion on different artistic proposals for the mural. They were able to meet the indigenous youth and discuss with them. – Patrice Loranger
