On 8th and 9th August in 2026, the 31st edition of the legendary graffiti and streetart festival UNDER PRESSURE took place in Montréal. Since its beginnings in 1996, the festival has become an established part of the city’s urban culture, bringing together graffiti, streetart, hip-hop, music, and street dance. In 2026, live painting once again played a central role, allowing visitors to experience the creative process directly and watch artists transform walls and public spaces into large-scale works of art.
Compared to the 2025 anniversary edition, the 2026 festival was somewhat smaller in scale. The event faced a reduced number of available walls as well as financial limitations. As a result, Sainte-Catherine Street could not be closed to traffic in the same way as in previous years. Instead, several activities were concentrated around Foufounes Électriques, the surrounding streets, and other nearby locations. Despite these changes, the festival maintained its characteristic atmosphere, with artists creating their work in public and visitors being able to watch the paintings develop throughout the event.
Music and DJ performances were also an important part of the weekend. The lineup included DJs such as Yan Johnz, Somsay, Soulswrks, Zola Zang, Le Complot, Rondo Banks, DJ Versatile, Furious, and Roma Delafer. The program was further complemented by a street market featuring various local vendors and activities, including flash tattoos. This combination of visual art, music, and street culture continued to make UNDER PRESSURE more than just a graffiti event, providing a space where different parts of Montréal’s urban scene could come together. Besides the outdoor works, the association and collective also runs the FRESH PAINT GALLERY, which hosts accompanying exhibitions and art events indoors.
