Tribute to Petar Karposh
Peter Karposh was a revolutionary and idealist who fought against the Ottoman occupation in the 17th century. He put his life and energy for the freedom of his people and was an essential actor in the local movement. The so-called Karposh’s rebellion was a Christian anti-Ottoman uprising in the Central Balkans that took place in October 1689 during the Great Turkish War, which happend between 1683 and 1699. Petar Karposh was captured by Ottoman troops after the failure of the Karposh Rebellion and executed in Skopje, most likely near the Stone Bridge. A precise date of his death is not historically recorded – only the year 1689 is certain.
