Ttribute to Vasil Chakalarov

Vasil Hristov Chekalarov, also known as Vasil ?ekalarov, was born in 1874 in Kristallopigi, present-day Greece, and died on July 9th 1913 in Drosopigi. He was a Macedonian revolutionary and leader of the Kastoria district as part of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization (IMRO) in Macedonia.

The equestrian statue was established in 2013 as a component of the SKOPJE 2014 initiative. It received funding from the government of the Republic of Macedonia (currently North Macedonia), which was led by the nationalist VMRO-DPMNE party at that time. The official aim was to enhance the classical aesthetic of the capital Skopje, while also improving its earthquake resilience. Approximately 20 buildings and more than 40 monuments were constructed throughout the city.
