FRANCE: Streetart Nice – Pasteur – Rue du Professeur Delvalle 19 – Pasteur Elementary School – Liberté. Égalité. Fraternité.

„Liberté. Égalité. Fraternité.“ – „Freedom. Equality. Fraternity.“

In 1910, the city of Nice undertook the construction of a new hospital in the north-east of the city, outside the city at the time. The Plaine de Saint-Pons district became known as the Pasteur district, after the hospital. In 2015, following major modernization and expansion work and the opening of Pasteur 2, it is now a major center at the cutting edge of surgery and medicine.

Louis Pasteur (1822-1895) was a French scientist, physicist and chemist by training, who was responsible for some of the 19th century’s most important scientific discoveries. He devoted his life to research in the fields of biology, agriculture, medicine and hygiene, with „La théorie des germes et ses applications à la médecine et à la chirurgie“. He also pioneered pasteurization, a food preservation technique.

Louis Pasteuer owes his worldwide fame to the development of the rabies vaccine, having saved Joseph Meister, a nine-year-old Alsatian bitten by a rabid dog, who became the first human being to be vaccinated. This success helped make Louis Pasteur one of history’s greatest scientists.

„If I had a little piece of land I’d call it Liberté. Liberte, I would rest there. There, where all my life would settle. If I had a little garden I would call it Softness. Softness makes me feel alright and all my problems would end. If I had a little vibe, I’d call it Underneath. Underneath, I’d read my little adventure book breathing the fresh air.“
