Cartagena is a port city with around 215,000 inhabitants and is located in the region of Murcia in south-eastern Spain. Worth seeing are the historic old town, which dates back to its foundation by the Carthaginians around 220 BC and a variety of historic buildings such as the second largest Roman theater on the Iberian Peninsula from the 1st century BC, the Casa de la Fortuna, which is decorated with colorful murals and mosaics, or the imposing town hall by architect Tomás Rico from 1907. The panoramic view from the castle hill is recommended as well, but there are also numerous gems of urban art in the streets. Especially during the great MUCHO MAS MAYO arts festival various events of different genres take place throughout the city, also every year new murals get created on the walls. The event is organized by the city council’s and youth departments and curated withe the help of local artist KRASER. These photos were taken by the world explorers Thomas Adventurer and Diana Beekvelt, also known as NOMADS ON WHEELS and they have been traveling around Spain with their VW LT28 van at that time.
