Puppeteer
The mural is a tribute to Micheline Legendre, a puppeteer born and deceased in 2010 in Outremont. A prominent figure in the neighborhood, Micheline Legendre founded the Montréal Puppet Theater in 1948. She also founded Cité Libre, a magazine of left-wing ideas and thinkers in the then-conservative Quebec. One of its co-founders was Pierre Elliott Trudeau, the future Prime Minister of Canada. She was president of the Canadian Conference of the Arts in 1978 and 1979. She participated in several children’s programs on public television, Radio-Canada. Michele Legendre was made a Knight of the Order of Quebec and an Officer of the Order of Canada in the late 1980s. A great creator from Outremont and a pioneer in the fields of arts and theater. – Patrice Loranger
