Colours and Forms in the Entrance Area
The design for this area was created in 2007 by ULF NORDFJELL, one of Sweden’s leading landscape architects. The slate rings were inspired by the waterlilies in the Ornamental Pond. Another fea- ture is the group of six fairly big, round flowerbeds you can see behind you. Spring bulbs and later a mixture of summer flowers adorn the flowerbeds as the year moves forward. In and Around the Ornamental Pond Ever since the seventeenth century, ornamental ponds have been popular in European hor- ticulture.
The water reflects and enhances the lush greenery of the surroundings. The centre of the pond is graced by a bronze Naiad by the Swedish sculptor Carl Milles. The far end of the pond is three metres shorter than the near end. This creates the impression that the pond is longer than it actually is, a phe- nonomenon known by its French namn “trompe l’oeil”. The flowerbed just beyond the pond dis- plays a different arrangement of blooms each year, according to the special theme of the year. Beauties on the Water The waterlilies in the pond belong to the genus Nymphaea.
“The Aviary” by ERIC LANGERT & PER PETERSSON
“The Aviary” and its satellites are the seething hub for an exhibition that has been growing and developing year by year since 2021 in Botaniska. Artists from the Konstepidemin are occupying more and more spaces in the garden with their ongoing creative expansion. A space for thought to fly freely. Birds are visual symbols of freedom. The aviary however is like a space that both limits and frames this free- dom.
PER PETERSSON was born in 1962 in Gothenburg and did his education at Stenebyskolan, KV Konstsko- la and HDK-Valand among other establishments. He has exhibited at the Mölndal Konsthall, Sintra, the Bohuslän Museum, Konsthallen in Go- thenburg, Östersund Konsthall, the Stockholm Art Fair and also in Lithu- ania, Norway, Denmark and the USA.
ERIC LANGERT was born in 1957 and had his education at HDK-Valand in Gothenburg. He is the project leader for “The Aviary” and its satellites, also he has built the framework for it. He is active in scenography, decoration, sculpture, exhibition design, playgrounds and everything that is fun.

KJELL FRIBERG for FRIENDS OF BOTANISKA
“We are a non-profit association of friends that was founded in 1987 with the aim of donating nutrition and plant power to Gothenburg’s botanical garden. The goal of our efforts is to contribute to the garden’s continued flourishing and development. You are also welcome to become our friend. Membership can be purchased in the store or via our website.” The artwork in the form of a watering can was made for the association in 2011 by the artist KJELL FRIBERG.
