Tribute to Karađorđe

The green area around the Church of Saint Sava is called Karadjordjev Park, where you can also find a statue in honor of Đorđe Petrović aka Karađorđe. He was the elected leader of the First Serbian Uprising against the Ottoman Empire from 1804 to 1813 and founder of the Karađorđević dynasty. Karađorđe was born on November 16th 1762 in Viševac in Serbia and died in July 1817 as a result of an assassination.
