The old Kopitoto TV Tower is a broadcasting tower located on Vitosha Mountain, south of Sofia, and was built in 1985 to replace the older television tower in the city. The tower is 186 metres high, stands at an elevation of approximately 1.345 metres above sea level and was designed by the architects Lyuben Popdonev and Stefan Tilev. Right next to this modern tower lies the abandoned ruins of the old Knyazhevo cable car station, which was permanently shut down following an accident in 1992. Over the decades, the skeletal concrete structure has become a true mecca for urban explorers and a fascinating open-air gallery for the local graffiti scene. Today, nearly every wall and corner of the ruin is covered with colorful tags and elaborate streetart, giving the place a raw, industrial charm. Many visitors use the unsecured area primarily as a backdrop for photos and to enjoy the spectacular panoramic view of the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, through the walls.
