Sofia City and Sight Seeing Tours – Also urban art included
On our last trip we went to the Balkan for some days, more precisely to Bulgaria and it´s beautiful capital Sofia. The weather was kind of unfavorable, from rain to little snow storms, but still we could explore this interesting city extensively and brought you a lot of marvelous streetart fotos and graffiti material.

Sofia Graffiti Tour – Interview with Niki Borisov – Background knowledge to local urban art
We had already an article about streetart and the city tours in Sofia. In the following story we want to tell you a bit more especially about the Sofia Graffiti Tour and some little streetart gimmicks, we found during our expedition through Bulgaria´s capital. The Graffiti Tour starts on the four days between Friday and Monday always at 3 pm at the corner of „Todor Alexandrov“ and „Bratya Miladinovi“ in front of the Statue of Sofia close to the metro station Serdika and is definitly recommendable. We were very lucky that day, no one else was taking part at the tour, so we had our tour guide Niki Borisov just for ourselves and could ask and discuss even more.

Trigrad – Gorge Graffiti – Urban Art Collection in the Mountains
The Trigrad Gorge is a canyon of vertical marble rock walls in the Rhodope Mountains and is located in the Smolyan District, one of the southernmost districts of Bulgaria. The gorge has had protected area status since 1963. There are also buildings along the mountain roads, a few of which are decorated with graffiti.

Shumen – 1300 Years of Bulgaria Monument – IVAN SLAVOV & KRUM DAMYANOV
The small town of Shumen is located in the north-east of the country and has around 9700 inhabitants. It may be a small town, but an important and artistically impressive memorandum was erected here in 1981. A huge sculputer complex in honor of „1300 years of Bulgaria“ or also titled „Founder of the Bulgarian State“. The oversized monument in a cubic construction was erected on a plateau above the city and designed by the Bulgarian sculptors KRUM DAMYANOV and IVAN SLAVOV.

Prohodna Cave – Sculptural Artworks and Nature Scenery
Prohodna is a karst cave in north-central Bulgaria, located in the Iskar Gorge near the village of Karlukovo in the Lowetsch province. The cave is known for the two eye-like holes in its ceiling, known as God’s eyes. Several stone statues have been placed at the entrance and around the cave area, which, in addition to the cave itself as a natural wonder, are a beautiful addition as creative works of human hands. They are thematically nature-related works with motifs of gnomes, animals or plants. The place really has something magical and is definitely worth a visit.

Kocherinovo – Scrap Nostalgia and Metal Museums – Local Dealers Collection
Kocherinovo is a small town in western Bulgaria, in the Kyustendil Oblast with around 2000 inhabitants. Time runs differently here and you can immerse yourself in various scrap metal shops in town. There is a hodgepodge of stuff here, it’s almost like a small historical and nostalgic museum.

Kavarna – Urban Art at the Black Sea – Kavarna Rock Fest Murals
Kavarna has around 10.000 inhabitants and is a holiday resort town on the northern Bulgarian Black Sea coast. It is known as „Bulgaria’s Rock ’n Roll Capital“ with the legendary KAVARNA ROCK FEST, which has taken place every summer since 2016 with local and international stars from rock and metal music. Some large-scale murals were also created in connection with this festival. Also worth seeing are the Historical Museum and the nearby Cape Kaliakra with the architectural reserve, the easternmost point of the country.
