GERMANY: Streetart Frankfurt – Character Jam 2015 – Event and Artist Gallery

Impressions from the Character Jam in the year 2015. The whole area got redesigned during this event. We had a cool graffiti weekend in Frankfurt, on Saturday and Sunday there was a lot of work and spraying done in Bonames at the youth center called Jugendhaus am Bügel. The Character Jam was organized there for the fifth time and the entire youth center was given a new look in a two-day large-scale painting campaign. We were there and took beautiful photos and talked to the artists.

For decades, the youth center has been one of the focal points in Frankfurt, if not the birthplace of local graffiti. Pretty much everyone from the Rhine-Main region who is enthusiastic about graffiti has painted something here at some point. Unfortunately, the site is still one of the few areas in this area that can be used legally and freely for spraying. But the opportunity is then used extensively and the greatest works of art are created here at varying intervals. There must already be countless layers of creative masterpieces under the respective walls. Something beautiful happened again this year.

At the Character Jam there’s a large façade plaster and a complete makeover. Participating artists travel from all over the region, but also from further afield or from abroad. A major concern of the event and the youth center is also the communication of this artistic activity to young people. On Saturday, the artist COR held a workshop for those interested and showed what is important when handling the spray can. The youth center sponsored a load of coloring supplies and generous portions of crêpes.
